"Today's decision will usher in a new Internet age." At least that was the verdict of Peter Thrush, chairman of ICANN's board of directors, as ICANN approved a resolution to expand the number of generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs). There are currently 22 gTLDs, the most well known being .com, .info, .net etc. but now, after Mondays vote, the possibilities are almost endless. Yes that's right, you can now potentially have anything for your gTLD and in any language. For example instead of media-street.co.uk we could have media-street.onlinesolutions, media.street or even media-street. 网页 (chinese for website - rough translation). ICANNs's board...

Have you ever thought about advertising on Facebook? Well, perhaps, you should consider it. As users put in specific information about themselves, such as favourite food, TV programmes, music etc. it is an extremely effective way of targeting your ideal customers. For instance if a business is selling tickets to a heavy metal gig in Devon then marketing it in the local paper might be a good start but you are unlikely to reach the majority of your target audience, equally you may place an advert in a specialist nationwide magazine but people in Scotland are unlikely to travel down to...

If you're one of those people that gets fed up with the constant barrage of banner ads that appear on websites (I know I am) then the last thing you're going to want is a banner ad for your own website, right? Well maybe, but perhaps you should think again. The Journal of Consumer Research (June 2011) suggests that repeated views of a banner ad makes the consumer familiar with the product or company and in turn leaves them with a positive feeling towards that product or company. In fact the research showed these positive feelings increased as the exposure frequency...

If you're selling anything online then making sure your online checkout is easy to follow and customer friendly is a must. Ever heard of the Pareto principle? you know, the one that says 20% of customers make up 80% of sales? Well, this is true for many businesses over many different sectors and could well be applicable to your business. Have a look and see if this works for your business and if it does then find out what these customers have in common and why it is they use your services or buy your product. From here you should be able to profile your ideal customers and see which potential new customers you should be targeting. Just another handy hint from...
