Lost in Translation?

November 21, 2011 Website Advice by James Thompson

Does your website allow for non English speaking visitors? If your running a business that sells products online then having a translation option would be highly advisable, after all, why would you want to alienate the rest of the world when there's another billion or so potential customers out there.

There are 2 main options when it comes to translating your website:

1. You can create identical websites in various foreign languages which will of course mean everything in your site being translated.

or

2. Install a translate bar such as Google Translate which can instantly translate text into a variety of languages but will not translate text on pictures or components.

The size of your company will determine which of these paths you go down with larger organizations choosing option 1 and smaller businesses going with option 2.
