Customer service announcement: As of the 15th of February we'll be increasing all our customers security by introducing an FTP lock feature to ALL hosting accounts.
Since 2009 there's been a substantial increase of attacks to websites by viruses stealing FTP credentials from home and business computers and using these credentials to place viruses on companies and private individuals websites.

Successful toy firm, Hamleys, suffered embarrassing downtime this year at the end of November after an administrative error that resulted in their website being offline for around 36hours.
Whilst the Christmas lights were turning on and people were starting to shop for presents the owners of the website made an administrative error of a lifetime by not renewing their domain name. A representative for the company said "The domain name was not renewed. It was an extremely big oversight, and yes, the timing of it was very unfortunate,".

For years I've been choosing web hosts for clients and recommending companies to go with certain hosts. It's a important part of running and managing a successful website because regardless of how successful your marketing is and how nice the site looks, if you site isn't accessible or quick to open it means people and potential customers will go elsewhere.
As a result I've created a quick checklist, explaining what to look for in a host, to make sure you get it right from the start. After all if you host turns out to be poor it can be an expensive and costly mistake that will frustrate you and leave a sour taste in your mouth and a dent in your wallet.
